CRUISE NIGHTS (& Other Recurring Car Gatherings)

*We are now in process of building up our 2021 event listings... The 2021s are now back to being highlighted in RED... As always, we welcome you to please send us your CT Shoreline-area old car event listings!

This Calendar is originated and periodically updated by the Shoreline Antique Auto Connection, a not-for-profit enterprise run for antique auto enthusiasts, by antique auto enthusiasts. As the information presented here is gleaned from a WIDE variety of sources, there is no way we can vouch for the truth or accuracy of anything, and we STRONGLY suggest you get in touch with the applicable event contacts listed, to make sure the event is indeed going to be held (especially before you make a long trip to attend!). Thank you. SAAC, P.O. Box 3353, Stony Creek, CT 06405, e-mail CommonGear@aol.com, web site http://www.shorelineantiqueautoconnection.com/ . Please send your CT Shoreline-area event listings for inclusion here (non-marque-specific events preferred).

WHY DO WE DO THIS? - We maintain this Calendar as a service to our fellow local-area antique auto enthusiasts! It's not perfect, but we always work very hard at it, and try to verify as much as possible everything that we publish. And we love to share it! We are not professionals at this--only enthusiasts who enjoy the old car hobby. What would really make us happy, however, is that those who may like to copy and paste our exhaustively researched (always with sources credited), written-out & detailed listings for their own web site use, to please occasionally give us a little bit of a shout-out! Thanks for your understanding and support! See you out there at the shows & cruises!

"WHERE ELSE ARE GOOD PLACES TO LOOK FOR UPCOMING CAR EVENT LISTINGS FOR THIS AREA?" - Frankly, at this stage of the game (mid-June 2020), the only calendar I really trust is THIS ONE. Other calendars that I look at regularly appear to be suffering from "lack of interest" by their editors/maintainers--and I can't say I blame them, since so much of the calendar updating I seem do these days is to revise events into cancelled events--it's depressing. For some reasonably reliable places to go look for events in Connecticut in general (we make no excuses for our desire to stay CT Shoreline-focused on this page), we first recommend The Connecticut Council of Car Clubs Events Calendar (whose editor John B. is extremely conscientious about keeping it accurate and updated; may we also suggest joining their Facebook group page for lots of event updates as well: https://www.facebook.com/groups/connecticutcouncilofcarclubs/), and then also Hemmings and also OldRide.com ... Beyond those, good luck... SUGGESTION: Contact the club or organization directly to see if their event is actually going to happen--relying solely on someone's haphazardly-maintained compendium of events (and I'm not saying I'm infallible--I only do this as a hobby after all) can often get you into trouble... Happy event hunting!

AUGUST 29 JUNE 62021, Sunday, Waterford – The CT MG Club’s 33rd Annual British By The Sea Gathering, 10am to 4pm, at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, CT… Quoting from the dedicated event page at the CT MG Club’s web site (http://www.ctmgclub.com/BBTS.html): “…The Connecticut MG Club’s “BRITISH BY THE SEA” is a fun gathering of people who own and appreciate British Vehicles of all Marques. Although we do present etched glass mug awards to vehicles selected by popular vote, “BRITISH BY THE SEA” is not a judged show. We want to encourage ALL British car, truck, and motorcycle owners and enthusiasts to attend and have an enjoyable time. Whether your vehicle is in pristine condition, or a daily driver, sparkling paint and chrome or with “Barn Fresh” patina, it deserves to be part of the event and on the display field… The Featured Marque for this year’s 33rd annual British By The Sea will be “The Outstanding Engineering of Modified MGs“… As usual, our Featured Marque will Be prominently displayed in the front row and will have generous room to display the vehicles along with any club tents for memorabilia and hospitality… Our BBTS Gathering is always scheduled on the first Sunday in June, at the scenic 240 acre Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Connecticut, on the north shore of Long Island Sound. We want to encourage people to come down and enjoy a day mingling with other LBC owners, talk about cars, have a picnic, a glass of wine, and also take in all that Harkness Memorial State Park has to offer, such as the beach, the Mansion “Eolia”, and the Gardens. The Connecticut MG Club donates a large percentage of our proceeds from BBTS to the Park to purchase plants for the West Gardens, helping to restore the “Eolia” Gardens to their original grandeur as designed by Beatrix Farrand in 1919. In addition, we provide “people power” over a few weekends to plant them… We have selected a variety of quality food vendors to attend in order to satisfy any appetite, from hot dogs and hamburgers, lobster rolls, deli sandwiches, and wood-fired brick oven pizzas, to Ice Cream for dessert. You can also bring a picnic to enjoy and share “out of the boot” of your car… The expansive lawn areas offer ample room for the display of vehicles, vendors, spectator parking, and a spacious area for trailer parking… NOTE: Because of the corona virus, the format of the event might have to change to abide by all of the covid-19 guidelines. Please check the CT MG Club web site for the latest updates… Event contact info: Steve or Annie MGTD52@COMCAST.NET or 860-693-4249… www.ctmgclub.com …”… Even more info - The Connecticut MG Club is also on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2546961535518212 … *1/26/2021 IMPORTANT EVENT DATE CHANGE UPDATE – When we first came across this listing online a week or so ago, on the CT MG Club’s web site, and I think another British-related independent web site also, it was listed for Sunday, June 6th. This morning, however, I received a note from my local MG-driving friend who’s also a mainstay of the CT MG Club, Bob Howard, and Bob informed me that this year’s British By The Sea event date had to be rescheduled to Sunday, August 29th, 2021. I am quoting from Bob’s e-mail (subject line: “MGs rescheduled”) of 1/26/2021: “…Hi Steve, We are rescheduling British By The Sea to Sunday, 29 August… Participants and visitors should wear masks… This is all a bit complicated, as we try to get tents, tables, chairs, portable heads and all the other details arranged, with no certainty that the DEEP will even permit the gathering then. I learned just a few days ago that they do not accept applications for use of a park more than 90 days before the event. There must be reasons for the policy, though they are obscure to me. With fingers crossed, we go forward... –Bob…”… This brought to mind the “stuff” that event planners have to worry about and deal with—even worse now in the “Age of the Pandemic.” I can only say how much we appreciate all that the hard working people in the CT MG Club (and other similar car clubs) do to plan and operate car events for our enjoyment! THANK YOU BOB and CT MG CLUB!... (this event was added to this calendar as of 1/21/2021; a revised event date was incorporated into this listing as of 1/26/2021)

OCTOBER 23-24, 2021, Saturday-Sunday, Greenwich – Greenwich Concours d’Elegance - with other related events also happening on Friday 10/22—see the web site events page for more info: https://www.greenwichconcours.com/event ... Quoting from Hemmings Daily Briefing dated 12/22/2020 by Tom Comerro; URL https://www.hemmings.com/stories/2020/12/22/daily-briefing-greenwich-concours-delegance-rescheduled-new-appointee-to-road-america-board-of-directors : “…Greenwich Concours d’Elegance Pushed Back… Hagerty has announced that the 2021 Greenwich Concours d’Elegance will be pushed back to the weekend of October 22-24, as opposed to the show’s normal weekend after Memorial Day dates. The change is being done due to the uncertainty of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The show is still expected to take place in Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich, Connecticut, overlooking Long Island Sound. “This was a difficult decision, but we felt that moving to the fall for 2021 gives us the best chance to safely host a truly spectacular event without fear or massive restrictions for staff, volunteers, owners, judges, sponsors and attendees,” says Concours Director Tabetha Hammer… The three-day event will include a Bonhams auction, test drives, activities for the whole family, a Grand Tour and Waterfront Party. The weekend events will culminate with the concours competition, which will include featured classes such as Ford vs. GM, Lancia, 100 Years of Duesenberg, 70 Years of Allard, Right Coast Rods, Vintage SUVS, 120 Years of Indian and 100 Years of Moto Guzzi. Tickets are expected to go on sale in early 2021; be sure to visit greenwichconcours.com for more information…”… And there is also this article: “2021 Greenwich Concours postponed until October 22–24,” Hagerty Media article by Jeff Peek, dated 12/17/2020, URL https://www.hagerty.com/media/news/2021-greenwich-concours-postponed-until-october-22-24/ : “…The Greenwich Concours d’Elegance can’t catch a break. The 25th annual event, planned for May 2020, was canceled in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now the 2021 concours has been postponed until October… “This was a difficult decision, but we felt that moving to fall 2021 gives us the best chance to safely host a truly spectacular event without fear or massive restrictions for staff, volunteers, owners, judges, sponsors and attendees,” says concours director Tabetha Hammer. “Finding an alternate date later in the year was very difficult, considering other standing events, weather, venue availability, and accommodating major partners.”… The Greenwich Concours, traditionally held in late May or early June, will now be held October 22–24. That’s the new plan, anyway. Hagerty acquired the Connecticut event last year and is still preparing for its first go-around… Hammer says she and her team realize that their event will join an already crowded list of notable automotive events scheduled for later in the year… “The fall is a very busy time for car events on the East Coast, even in normal years,” Hammer says. “We know enthusiasts will have a lot of options to choose from, with great car events planned almost every weekend from August through October. We’re excited to be a part of that lineup.”… Saturday’s Greenwich schedule (October 23) will feature the acclaimed Bonhams auction, as well as family activities, test drives, local food vendors, and Greenwich traditions like the Grand Tour and evening Waterfront Party. Hagerty will add its own unique touches, including its popular “Ride & Drive,” which puts show-goers behind the wheel of cool, older cars, such as a 1965 Ford Mustang and a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS. Prior to the event, drivers age 15–25 will also be given the opportunity to learn to drive a manual transmission through the Hagerty Driving Experience… Sunday’s docket (October 24) includes the traditional best-of-the-best Concours competition, with a wide variety of international and domestic marques. Featured classes for 2021 will include Ford vs. GM, Lancia, 100 Years of Duesenberg, 70 Years of Allard, Right Coast Rods, Vintage SUVs, 120 Years of Indian, and 100 Years of Moto Guzzi… Hammer says vehicle submissions for the 2021 Concours are not being accepted at this time because “we already have a full roster of incredible cars that were submitted for the 2020 event that will be given first priority.”… The Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, founded in 1995 by the late Bruce and Genia Wennerstrom and first held in 1996, overlooks the famed Long Island Sound and the beautiful Greenwich Harbor and is only 30 miles from New York City… Tickets will go on sale in early 2021. CRUISE NIGHTS (& Other Recurring Car Gatherings)

IMPORTANT: Since the world of Cruise Night listings seems to be especially filled with old, out-of-date information--which has, on occasion, led to frustrating drives to non-existent cruises (we speak from direct personal experience!)--we've decided to do our best to only list confirmed listings (though we still urge you to call ahead before making any long trips, since we cannot guarantee anything), which we'll clearly highlight with a noticeable color--we have been alternating red and fuchsia in recent years to highlight the most recent years' listings. *1/3/2021 UPDATE - back to RED for the new 2021 listings!!... Anyway, now that it's the New Year, if you have any confirmed 2021 cruise event listings, please send us yours--especially those Shoreline-oriented, for inclusion here--Thanks!...

And there you have it... webmaster's note - The source for this listing was as seen on our friends the CT Seaport Car Club's coming events page (https://www.ctseaportcarclub.com/carshows.htm), and for even more info: https://www.milfordsportspub.com/ and/or: https://www.facebook.com/milfordsportspub (and be sure to give 'em a "Like" while you're there)… *4/8/2021 UPDATES--FLYER LINK & ADDITIONAL INFO -  We were looking at the listing on coming events page of our friends the CT Seaport Car Club again and a flyer link was added (https://www.ctseaportcarclub.com/Flyers2021/milfordCruise%20Night%20Flyer%20(3).pdf); from reading the flyer, we are happy to add additional details to this listing... The end date for this season of their Wednesday cruise nights is clearly indicated now as September 8th, so do keep that in mind… The appearance(s) by DJ Seth “Wolfman” Carley is further described as: “Coming out of retirement for a limited engagement!”… The phrase “Food Bank Donations” is indicated on the flyer, so not sure if that means they will be collecting nonperishable foods, so maybe a good idea to call ahead on that, in case you think you’d like to bring your nonperishable food donations to benefit for those less fortunate… Finally, the original wording on the events page event listing I took to mean that “import tuners” were not welcome (the phrase “import tuners” sometimes can have a negative connotation, I guess), but now the flyer clarifies that with the following wording: “…No imports, tuners, rollers…”… So, as a vintage Volkswagen (an import) driver, I guess I’m going to be limited to only spectating if I am fortunate to be able to make it to one or more of these events—not that I don’t enjoy spectating, though!... And there you have it…*6/8/2021 APPARENT EVENT CANCELLATION NOTICE - This event is now shown as "Cancelled for the year," on the CT Seaport Car Club's coming events page (https://www.ctseaportcarclub.com/carshows.htm). I attempted to find come corroboration of this news, including checking the venue's web site and FB pages, and also attempt to contact the DJ music person directly, but nothing so far... And there you have it... (this cruise/recurring event was added to this calendar as of 4/5/2021; additional details and a flyer link were added to this listing as of 4/8/2021; apparent event cancellation notice incorporated into this listing as of 6/8/2021)

(https://www.facebook.com/groups/1141058699337292/user/100007227395415/) on the CT Council of Car Clubs Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/connecticutcouncilofcarclubs): “…~~ Cruisin' Mt Carmel ~~ Sponsored by Trantolo & Trantolo… Come join us every Thursday. I did look up what day of the week “10/31/2021” was (the event is indicated on the flyer to run “April 15 – October 31, 2021”), and that’s a Sunday, so not sure how that fits with the Thursday theme—ALTHOUGH they do run a “Toys for Tots” classic car toy drive/cruise that begins in Stratford, and ends here at Goodies Milford, so perhaps that’s what the 31st refers to (and I’ll be sure to update this listing if/when I hear more info on that)… Additional note of thanks – Thanks also to dedicated local classic car guy Anthony DiNuzzo for posting it on his “Classic Cars Cruise Nights and Shows” Facebook group page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/873394510108168), which is where I found it in the first place!... I received a prompt response from Donna Warner (https://www.facebook.com/donna.warner.35) who indicated that it was going to happen “every Thursday as long as it’s not raining.”… Sounds good to me! Thanks Ed, thanks Donna, and thanks American Legion Post 113! Hope to make it out there some Thursday evening soon! I’ve been to this cruise night in years-passed and have always enjoyed the laid-back vibe, cool cars, and friendly folks!... *6/10/2020 UPDATES & ADDITIONAL INFO – Thanks to Charlie Calci (https://www.facebook.com/charlie.calci) for recently posting on the “Shoreline Antique Auto Enthusiasts – Connecticut” Facebook group page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/372713469572291) a copy of the Official Flyer for the 2021 American Legion Post 113 Thursday Night Car Shows, which indicates they will run “…May 20th thru September 2nd, 2021, at 5pm…” and also the following info/advice: “…Bring  your antique/vintage/collector car and join in the fun! (**UPDATED FOR 2021**) SATURDAYS (once a month, starts 3/20/2021, runs thru October; see list of dates), Branchburg (NEW JERSEY) (appears to be confirmed for 2021) - “Neshantic Station Car Show,” 7:30am to 1:00pm, 111 Elm Street, Branchburg, NJ 08853…. Quoting from the event flyer posted on the Hemmings dedicated info page (https://www.hemmings.com/events/detail?listing_id=58473) where this event was found (direct flyer link: https://assets.hemmings.com/uimage/77519114-0-0.jpg?rev=1): “…The popular Neshantic Station Flea Market is joined in 2021 by the new Neshantic Station Car Show! The Car Show will be held one Saturday each month from March through October, from 7:30am to 1:00pm… (list of dates): Saturday, March 20 … Saturday, April 17 … Saturday, May 15 … Saturday, June 12 … Saturday, July 17 … Saturday, August 14 … Saturday, September 18 … Saturday, October 16 … Registration: There is no charge for car owners to bring and show their cars, and all antique, classic, and collector cars, trucks, and other vehicles are welcome. We just ask car owners to email us at carshow@nechanic.organd register so we know how many vehicles to expect. In lieu of registration fee, we ask all car owners to bring a cash or food donation for the Somerset County Food Bank… The Car Show is just minutes from Routes 202 and 206. To find the location via GPS, enter “111 Elm Street, Branchburg, NJ”…”… webmaster’s note – Why a car show in New Jersey on the SAAC Calendar? Reason #1 is that it’s a nice early-season event (and we love the early season events), and Reason #2 is that it seems a lot of events more local to us are either not being planned yet (obviously due to COVID concerns), or are being planned and cancelled already (which is exceptionally depressing, and for the same reason), and Reason #3 is that it just plain sounds like fun, and if I have a free Saturday, I’ll definitely consider a drive out there to check it out—if not as a participant, at least as a spectator! New Jersey is a beautiful state to visit!… (this cruise/recurring event was added to this calendar as of 2/25/2021)

Thank you. SAAC, P.O. Box 3353, Stony Creek, CT 06405, e-mail CommonGear@aol.com, web site http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/SAACMainPage.html . Please send your CT Shoreline-area event listings for inclusion here (non-marque-specific events preferred).
