CRUISE NIGHTS (& Other Recurring Car Gatherings)

*We are now in process of building up our 2020 event listings... The 2020s are now back to being highlighted in FUCHSIA... As always, we welcome you to please send us your CT Shoreline-area old car event listings!

This Calendar is originated and periodically updated by the Shoreline Antique Auto Connection, a not-for-profit enterprise run for antique auto enthusiasts, by antique auto enthusiasts. As the information presented here is gleaned from a WIDE variety of sources, there is no way we can vouch for the truth or accuracy of anything, and we STRONGLY suggest you get in touch with the applicable event contacts listed, to make sure the event is indeed going to be held (especially before you make a long trip to attend!). Thank you. SAAC, P.O. Box 3353, Stony Creek, CT 06405, e-mail CommonGear@aol.com, web site http://www.shorelineantiqueautoconnection.com/ . Please send your CT Shoreline-area event listings for inclusion here (non-marque-specific events preferred).

WHY DO WE DO THIS? - We maintain this Calendar as a service to our fellow local-area antique auto enthusiasts! It's not perfect, but we always work very hard at it, and try to verify as much as possible everything that we publish. And we love to share it! We are not professionals at this--only enthusiasts who enjoy the old car hobby. What would really make us happy, however, is that those who may like to copy and paste our exhaustively researched (always with sources credited), written-out & detailed listings for their own web site use, to please occasionally give us a little bit of a shout-out! Thanks for your understanding and support! See you out there at the shows & cruises!

"WHERE ELSE ARE GOOD PLACES TO LOOK FOR UPCOMING CAR EVENT LISTINGS FOR THIS AREA?" - Frankly, at this stage of the game (mid-June 2020), the only calendar I really trust is THIS ONE. Other calendars that I look at regularly appear to be suffering from "lack of interest" by their editors/maintainers--and I can't say I blame them, since so much of the calendar updating I seem do these days is to revise events into cancelled events--it's depressing. For some reasonably reliable places to go look for events in Connecticut in general (we make no excuses for our desire to stay CT Shoreline-focused on this page), we first recommend The Connecticut Council of Car Clubs Events Calendar (whose editor John B. is extremely conscientious about keeping it accurate and updated; may we also suggest joining their Facebook group page for lots of event updates as well: https://www.facebook.com/groups/connecticutcouncilofcarclubs/), and then also Hemmings and also OldRide.com ... Beyond those, good luck... SUGGESTION: Contact the club or organization directly to see if their event is actually going to happen--relying solely on someone's haphazardly-maintained compendium of events (and I'm not saying I'm infallible--I only do this as a hobby after all) can often get you into trouble... Happy event hunting!

It was explained to us by the organizers that they have been working closely with the Town of West Hartford to find a suitable date that worked for everyone—this is the sort of behind-the-scenes stuff that a lot of people don’t appreciate—it takes a LOT of work & planning by many people to bring off as successful and high profile as this! Thanks for your understanding and hopefully will see all of you in the Spring.…”… I guess you can look at their web site for any more details… And there you have it… (this event was added to this calendar as of 6/9/2020; event revision notice incorporated into this listing as of 9/9/2020)

EVENT CANCELLED (per note posted on the organizer's on the Facebook page) OCTOBER 7-10, 2020, Wednesday-Saturday, Hershey (PENNSYLVANIA) – “AACA Eastern Fall National Meet,” Hershey, PA. Info: http://www.aaca.org/Meets/aaca_calendar.html … *5/31/2020 EVENT CANCELLATION NOTICE - The following was posted by the Hershey Region AACA on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Hershey-Region-AACA-160938227293161/), on 5/28/2020: "...It is with great regret that the AACA Hershey Region Executive Board informs you that the 2020 Hershey Fall Meet has been cancelled. This decision was not arrived at lightly. Our Club prides itself on producing a world-class event that thousands of people anticipate every year, so we felt the heaviest of burdens when faced with this decision... While making the difficult choice to cancel, the Board took many obstacles into account, including but not limited to: the health and welfare of our volunteers, vendors, partners, and visitors; the unknown restrictions and/or guidelines that may be in place at the time of our show; and the volunteer-only workforce we rely on to prepare for a show of our magnitude... We appreciate you understanding how difficult this decision was for the Executive Board to make. We know that some people will be upset by the decision and others will applaud it. Either way, please know that the Hershey Region Executive Board has acted in what they believe are the best interests of the Club, and we ask for your continued support as we navigate these unprecedented times... Refund information will be sent very soon in regards to all payments already received by the Hershey Region AACA... Please know that we continue to explore ideas to benefit the hobby and are working toward the possibility of still hosting our usual car show on Saturday in October. While this may not be doable, AACA and the Hershey Region along with other constituencies are working hard to make this possible. Please visit our website and social media as often as possible for the latest news... Hershey Region AACA..."... And there you  have it... The state of Connecticut is allowing outdoor events with up to 500 attendees or 25% of last years attendees. With over 3000 people attending each of our events last year, our C&C event format clearly does not conform to the current state regulations. Even though Connecticut rates of infection remain low, I believe no automotive event large or small is worth an attendee catching Covid19 or that our event could cause the spread of this virus. Our #1 priority is the health and safety of all involved in our events. This includes participants, spectators, families, police, fire department, EMT's, sponsors and our volunteers... We wish you good health... Don't forget to get out and Drive!... --Doug Zumbach..."… And there you have it… (this event was added to this calendar as of 1/14/2020; event cancellation notice incorporated into this listing as of 9/16/2020)

OCTOBER 18, 2020, Sunday, (starting in) Derby (ending in) Shelton – “…’Follow The Crosley’ Food Drive – Organized by Heav’nly Donuts…”… Quoting from Ernie from Heav’nly Donuts’ (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100004638825586Facebook post from earlier in the week: “…Summer of 2020 is coming to an end, the summer of no cruise nights at the donut, we still would like to finish this year with a Food Drive to support the Spooner House, so we will do another FOLLOW THE CROSLEY FOOD DRIVE like we did in the Spring. We will meet at Heav'nly Donuts at NOON on OCTOBER 18, then leave in a line at 1 PM, drive down Rte 34, go by the Derby Police Department, then salute Griffin Hospital, and deliver our FOOD to the Spooner House… RAIN DATE will be on November 1….”… webmaster’s note - Sounds awesome to us, Ernie! The first “Follow The Crosley” event took place earlier this year, and even though we were not able to actually participate in the drive, we managed to get over to “The Donut” (that is: Heav’nly Donuts, 658 New Haven Avenue—a.k.a. Route 34, Derby, CT 06418) at about noon, when all sorts of cool cars & trucks were mustering in the Heav’nly Donuts parking lot, and spent the next hour or so, up until the “Follow the Crosley Food Drive” took off on their route with police escort, checking out the scene, saying hi to many old friends from the hobby, and having a great time taking tons of pictures. Hope to get back over there on October 18th once again! GREAT job by Ernie and his cruise nights co-director Mike Burke, setting these events up to benefit a fantastic organization—The Spooner House of Shelton, CT, even though we’ve not been able to enjoy a “normal” cruise night season in this “pandemic year.” Thanks Ernie and Mike for all you do!… More info – Please also be sure to check out The Spooner House’s web site to find out about all the great humanitarian work they do (the organization that the “Follow The Crosley Food Drive” benefits): http://www.actspooner.org/ …  (this event was added to this calendar as of 9/18/2020)

CRUISE NIGHTS (& Other Recurring Car Gatherings)

IMPORTANT: Since the world of Cruise Night listings seems to be especially filled with old, out-of-date information--which has, on occasion, led to frustrating drives to non-existent cruises (we speak from direct personal experience!)--we've decided to do our best to only list confirmed listings (though we still urge you to call ahead before making any long trips, since we cannot guarantee anything), which we'll clearly highlight with a noticeable color--we have been alternating red and fuchsia in recent years to highlight the most recent years' listings. *11/12/2019 UPDATE - back to FUCHSIA for the new 2020 listings!!... Anyway, now that it's the New Year, if you have any confirmed 2019 cruise event listings, please send us yours--especially those Shoreline-oriented, for inclusion here--Thanks!... Please do be very careful to note that some of last year's 2019 listings are still here--we have NO INFORMATION about whether or not the 2018 listings are still valid or not, but we are leaving them in place for now, in case they might be useful for reference/who to contact to request 2020 info from, etc... Finally, when you see a listing prefaced with (old listing), that means it's from 2018 or earlier--in other words, really old, and probably unreliable info...

As of the last update from the Governor, it's looking like some restrictions will begin to ease starting May 20, 2020. While the state will begin looking to ease social distancing policies and expand the list of essential businesses we feel that it is still too soon to have a parking lot full of cars and people. Again while we want nothing more than to see our customers fill up our lot and get you guys some much needed social time, the health and safety of both our staff and customers are our top priority… As of today, we will be canceling all Cars and Coffee events for the month of May and will be moving our season opener to July 18th June 20th, 2020. We know this is not what some of you wanted to hear and we hate to make this announcement but at this time it is what we have to do to continue playing our part in curbing the spread. We will continue to monitor the situation through May and provide any further updates here… Thanks, Team Ground Up…”… *6/12/2020 ANOTHER DATE REVISION NOTICE – Looked at the Facebook event page (https://www.facebook.com/events/251467149347425/) again today and observed that the season opener date is now shown as July 18th… Not much more to say… *7/13/2020 EVENT CANCELLATION NOTICE – Per the Facebook event page (https://www.facebook.com/events/251467149347425/), the 7/18/2020 event is now marked as “Cancelled”… (this event was “re-added” to this calendar as of 5/5/2020; another revised season opener date incorporated into this listing as of 6/12/2020; 7/18 event cancellation notice incorporated into this listing as of 7/13/2020)
