CRUISE NIGHTS, CARS & COFFEES (& Other Recurring Car Gatherings)

*We are now in process of building up our 2023 event listings... The 2023s are now back to being highlighted in FUCHSIA... As always, we welcome you to please send us your CT Shoreline-area old car event listings (NOTE - we make no claim to be "state-comprehensive" with our car event listings--there are many other excellent resources out there for event listings to the east, west, and north of us--our "sweet spot" for event listings, and what we naturally give priority to, is the central part of the CT Shoreline).

This Calendar is originated and periodically updated by the Shoreline Antique Auto Connection, a not-for-profit enterprise run for antique auto enthusiasts, by antique auto enthusiasts. As the information presented here is gleaned from a WIDE variety of sources, there is no way we can vouch for the truth or accuracy of anything, and we STRONGLY suggest you get in touch with the applicable event contacts listed, to make sure the event is indeed going to be held (especially before you make a long trip to attend!). Thank you. SAAC, P.O. Box 3353, Stony Creek, CT 06405, e-mail CommonGear@aol.com, web site http://www.shorelineantiqueautoconnection.com/ . Please send your CT Shoreline-area event listings for inclusion here (non-marque-specific events preferred).

WHY DO WE DO THIS? - We maintain this Calendar as a service to our fellow local-area antique auto enthusiasts! It's not perfect, but we always work very hard at it, and try to verify as much as possible everything that we publish. And we love to share it! We are not professionals at this--only enthusiasts who enjoy the old car hobby. What would really make us happy, however, is that those who may like to copy and paste our exhaustively researched (always with sources credited), written-out & detailed listings for their own web site use, to please occasionally give us a little bit of a shout-out! Thanks for your understanding and support! See you out there at the shows & cruises!

NOVEMBER 5, 2023, Sunday, Branford – Branford Veterans Day Parade, ceremonies begin at 1:00pm, at the Branford Green, and Parade will step off at 1:30pm. I received e-mails from both outgoing Branford Veterans Parade Committee Chairman Bill O’Brien, and incoming new Chairman John Fitzgerald, within the past day or so (e-mails were dated 9/19/2023, from both Bill, obrienwt@comcast.net , and John, jxfitzgerald@yahoo.com ) providing the details of this year’s Branford Veterans Day Parade, and with the request to respond back to Mr. Fitzgerald confirming our “group’s” participation once again (our “group” being the “independent” antique automobile drivers—that is, not affiliated with any particular civic group or organization—but who appreciate the opportunity to drive our old cars in the parade, to help pay tribute to our military veterans). I will be happy to once again compile the list of interested “independent” antique automobile drivers, and forward that info to Mr. Fitzgerald closer to the date of the parade, so that he’ll have some idea of how many old cars may muster along Town Hall Drive (roughly in front of Trinity Church, and facing the “wrong” direction on the *one-way* Town Hall Drive, which skirts the south side of the Green) prior to the step-off of the parade. I have a couple of important points that I’d like anyone considering doing this with your antique car to be aware of... POINT #1Please try your best to be there no later than 1:00pm, so that you can listen to the pre-parade ceremonies, and so that other groups and/or spectators who are trying to listen to the ceremonies won’t be disturbed… POINT #2: Please be aware that this parade is, I’m going to estimate a couple of miles long in total (out along Main Street to North Harbor Street, and then back to the Green again for the return leg), and it happens essentially at a walking paceSo, if your car’s cooling system is not in good shape (especially if it happens to be a warm or hot day), I suggest you reconsider participating—I’ve seen my share of old cars overheated and pulled over to the side of the road during these parades—it seems more apt to happen for Memorial Day Parades, but it can happen for Veterans Day Parades too). There are only a couple of very gentle hills along the parade route, so hills aren’t what you necessarily need to worry about—but your car’s cooling system is definitely something you need to have squared away before participating in this parade!... POINT #3: This is an honorable parade, in which we pay tribute to our country’s military veterans who’ve sacrificed so much for our freedoms and way of life, and so while patriotic decorations to one’s car (such as American flags) are acceptable and encouraged, the blowing of car horns is not. Ok, all of that said, and hopefully understood, I welcome your contacting me (Steve from SAAC at CommonGear@aol.com) to indicate your intention to participate in the independent antique automobile group for this parade, and let’s say please also try to let me know no later than the end of October. THANKS! And thanks also to Chairmen O’Brien and Fitzgerald for their invitation once again for us to participate honorably in the 2023 Branford Veterans Day Parade… (this event was added to this calendar as of 9/19/2023)

JANUARY 20-21, 2024, Saturday-Sunday, West Springfield (MASSACHUSETTS) – “…The 2024 Auto Parts Swap ‘N Sell…”… It’s Never Too Early to Start Planning for the Auto Parts Swap ‘N Sell at the Big E!... Thanks to our friends at Mark’s Northeast Motorsports Expo (https://www.facebook.com/MarksNEMotorsportsExpo) for the heads-up reminder from just a couple of days ago, that the dates have been set for the 2024 Auto Parts Swap ‘N Sell (official web site, with all the important registration details, etc.: http://www.apswapnsell.com/ and/or on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/AutoPartsSwapnSell/ - make sure to visit and give ‘em a “Like” while you’re there), and those dates are Saturday, January 20th, and Sunday, January 21st, 2024 (the location of course being the Big E “Better Living Center” building, in West Springfield, MA)… webmaster’s note - It was a huge thrill for me getting to meet “The Man,” Ben Dodge, who runs this entire event (along with many helpers), at the 2023 version (thanks, actually to the “Mark’s” people for suggesting where to go to find him at the event—so glad that I followed their advice, and was able to finally meet Ben, after so many years of attending his great event). We extend our thanks to the “Mark’s” folks once again for making sure we have the 2024 Auto Parts Swap ‘N Sell on our radar screens, and of course thanks again to Ben Dodge for all his work over the years to create and maintain this fantastic wintertime northeast auto enthusiast tradition!... *IMPORTANT UPDATES AS OF MID-SEPTEMBER 2023 – CONTACT FROM ORGANIZER BEN DODGE - In a very gracious 5 September 2023-postmarked correspondence, our long-time old car friend Ben Dodge supplied us not only with a “stamps infusion” (thanks again Ben!), but also important info about this coming January’s “Auto Parts Swap ‘n Sell” (January 20th & 21st, 2024, at the Eastern States Exposition/Better Living Center Building in West Springfield, MA). Thanks to the good folks from “Mark’s Northeast Motorsports Expo” (https://www.facebook.com/MarksNEMotorsportsExpo) we did get the event listed onto the SAAC Calendar page back in May, but I will need to pump it up now, with the latest notes from Ben. Let me quote a few excerpts from his note: “…Hello my friends… I appreciate the amazing job that you do!... Please put the Show info as soon as possible in your events listing. I need vendors. CRUISE NIGHTS, CARS & COFFEES (& Other Recurring Car Gatherings)

IMPORTANT: Since the world of Cruise Night listings seems to be especially filled with old, out-of-date information--which has, on occasion, led to frustrating drives to non-existent cruises (we speak from direct personal experience!)--we've decided to do our best to only list confirmed listings (though we still urge you to call ahead before making any long trips, since we cannot guarantee anything), which we'll clearly highlight with a noticeable color--we have been alternating red and fuchsia in recent years to highlight the most recent years' listings. *12/15/2021 UPDATE - Will use BLUE for the new 2022 listings!!... Anyway, now that it's the New Year, if you have any confirmed 2022 cruise and/or recurring-type event listings, please send us yours--especially those Shoreline-oriented, for inclusion here--Thanks!...

(***UPDATED FOR 2023***) SUNDAYS (informal gatherings throughout the year; big ‘Official’ gatherings on specific dates), New Canaan (appears to be confirmed for 2023) - “…’Caffeine and Carburetors,’ Presented by Zumbach’s Coffee of New Canaan… 8:00am to 11:00am, at Pine Street in New Canaan, CT 08840…”… We are taking the Caffeine and Carburetors official web site (https://caffeineandcarburetors.com/) as the Official Word on these dates. Beyond the Sunday, May 21st Pine Street date, the two other “Official Dates” for these amazing gatherings are Sunday, September 17th at Pine Street, and Sunday, October 22nd, at Waveny Park, which is also in New Canaan… More info - Following is a description for one of these “big ‘Official’ events” (there are also informal “Lite” ones that happen pretty much throughout the year—I’ll get to those later), that I lifted from a “Cars And Coffee Events” (https://carsandcoffeeevents.com/) dedicated info page for one of the big “Official” events: “…Caffeine & Carburetors is a gathering of automotive enthusiasts. We meet at Zumbach’s Gourmet Coffee in New Canaan, CT to enjoy our rides and share them with like-minded gear heads hiding in and around Connecticut and New York. Smaller, informal gatherings occur every Sunday morning throughout the year with 4 larger events in the spring, summer, and fall. This is one of those larger events… We have a tendency to lean toward sports cars, with the occasional Model A or 1920's Rolls Royce, but our emphasis is on foreign sports cars. We enjoy all vehicles and there are no sponsorships or awards… Doug Zumbach began hosting these gatherings in 1995. These Sundays start around 8 am to gather and enjoy a cup of coffee followed by a leisurely drive through the countryside… Caffeine and Carburetors is a way to indulge the gear head in all of us… Being a gathering and not a juried event, there is no registration, and events are free for all… The event officially starts at 8:00 am, but if you’re showing your car, plan on getting there at the crack of dawn to get a good parking space….”… And now let’s get to the “Lite” info, as promised - Now what about these Caffeine and Carburetors “Lite” events, that happen on Sunday mornings throughout the year? I will quote from another Cars And Coffee Events info page, that describes these much more informal happenings: “…Caffeine & Carburetors is a gathering of automotive enthusiasts. We meet at Zumbach’s Gourmet Coffee in New Canaan, CT to enjoy our rides and share them with like-minded gear heads hiding in and around Connecticut and New York. Smaller, informal gatherings occur every Sunday morning throughout the year with 4 larger events in the spring, summer, and fall… We have a tendency to lean toward sports cars, with the occasional Model A or 1920's Rolls Royce, but our emphasis is on foreign sports cars. We enjoy all vehicles and there are no sponsorships or awards… Doug Zumbach began hosting these gatherings in 1995. These Sundays start around 8 am to gather and enjoy a cup of coffee followed by a leisurely drive through the countryside… Caffeine and Carburetors is a way to indulge the gear head in all of us… Being a gathering and not a juried event, there is no registration, and events are free for all…”… And there you have it!... One more bit of info - Don’t forget to check out the Caffeine & Carburetors Facebook page (and give ‘em a “Like” while you’re there), online at: https://www.facebook.com/CaffeineandCarburetors ... OH! for Shoreliners - If you’re from the central CT Shoreline area, our friend Joe from Northeast Porsche Owners (https://www.facebook.com/northeastporscheowners) organizes drives from our area down to Caffeine & Carburetors in New Canaan occasionally—drop him a line for more info: northeastporscheowners@gmail.com… Ok, I think we may have finally covered everything!... We've spent the past month working out the logistics and we thank you for your patience. We've incurred a few expenses that we have paid upfront and in order for us to be able to continue this year and into the future and we'll have a donation bucket at the gate with a $2 minimum per car (you can always give us more). There will be a food vendor selling coffee, breakfast sandwiches, water, soda and muffins. There will also be portable toilets. You know the rules.... No speeding to and from the event… No engine revving… No burnouts… Our motto is "If it has wheels, bring it!..and we like dogs too" and so do the folks at Moroso! Rockin’ Richard, the legendary DJ who runs the great oldies tunes for these events also indicated the event hours as 5pm to 8pm, as it has traditionally been over the years. Can’t wait to get back to some North Branford “Crusin’” for 2023! Thanks again Ed and Rockin’ Rich!... Additional info - The McDonalds and Dairy Queen who are the host businesses for this cruise night are located at 280 Branford Road, North Branford, CT 06471, part of a larger shopping plaza called I think, “Central Plaza,” and you can think of it as also being located at the intersection of Routes 80 & 139 (I think Route 80 in this area is called “Foxon Road,” and Route 139 in this area is called “Branford Road”)… (this cruise/recurring event was added to this calendar as of 2/20/2023; event start date updated as of 3/19/2023)

Please spread the word and we'll see you soon!...”… Even more info – I decided to look up the actual street address for the Milford McDonalds that’s near the Mall, just in case (since I think there’s at least one other McDonalds in town, over toward the Stratford side of town); I know that 99% of the people reading this event listing know exactly the one that’s being talked about here, since the BS&Gs have held Friday cruise nights there for many years—anyway, it’s: 1376 Boston Post Road, Milford, CT 06460, and I believe it’s technically located within the “Turnpike Square” shopping plaza (reference: https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/location/ct/milford/1376-post-rd-turnpike-square/6150.html) … And there you have it! Nice to see the return of this very popular Friday night cruise night, and I look forward to stopping in! I believe the cut-off year used to be set at 1981, so the new 1986 cut-off should also yield some interesting new additions to the cruisin’ crowd...  (this cruise/recurring event was added to this calendar as of 4/19/2022)

(**UPDATED FOR 2021**) SATURDAYS (once a month, starts 3/20/2021, runs thru October; see list of dates), Branchburg (NEW JERSEY) (appears to be confirmed for 2021) - “Neshantic Station Car Show,” 7:30am to 1:00pm, 111 Elm Street, Branchburg, NJ 08853…. Quoting from the event flyer posted on the Hemmings dedicated info page (https://www.hemmings.com/events/detail?listing_id=58473) where this event was found (direct flyer link: https://assets.hemmings.com/uimage/77519114-0-0.jpg?rev=1): “…The popular Neshantic Station Flea Market is joined in 2021 by the new Neshantic Station Car Show! The Car Show will be held one Saturday each month from March through October, from 7:30am to 1:00pm… (list of dates): Saturday, March 20 … Saturday, April 17 … Saturday, May 15 … Saturday, June 12 … Saturday, July 17 … Saturday, August 14 … Saturday, September 18 … Saturday, October 16 … Registration: There is no charge for car owners to bring and show their cars, and all antique, classic, and collector cars, trucks, and other vehicles are welcome. We just ask car owners to email us at carshow@nechanic.organd register so we know how many vehicles to expect. In lieu of registration fee, we ask all car owners to bring a cash or food donation for the Somerset County Food Bank… The Car Show is just minutes from Routes 202 and 206. To find the location via GPS, enter “111 Elm Street, Branchburg, NJ”…”… webmaster’s note – Why a car show in New Jersey on the SAAC Calendar? Reason #1 is that it’s a nice early-season event (and we love the early season events), and Reason #2 is that it seems a lot of events more local to us are either not being planned yet (obviously due to COVID concerns), or are being planned and cancelled already (which is exceptionally depressing, and for the same reason), and Reason #3 is that it just plain sounds like fun, and if I have a free Saturday, I’ll definitely consider a drive out there to check it out—if not as a participant, at least as a spectator! New Jersey is a beautiful state to visit!… (this cruise/recurring event was added to this calendar as of 2/25/2021)
